What information does NI gather online in connection with the K12Lab website?

Every time you visit our K12Lab website, we automatically collect information such as your IP address -- the Internet address of your computer, the locale, language, and country browser you are using, the Web page from which you accessed this site, and a record of your activity on our site. We use this information to learn more about general trends in traffic patterns so we can improve our K12Lab website.

We also use third-party Web analytics companies (“Analytics Providers”) to collect

information that will help us improve our site. At this time, we use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc.  (“Google”). We may use other Analytics Providers in the future. Whenever you so request we inform you about the identity and contact details of the Analytics Providers to which your information is accessible at the time of your request. Analytics Providers use “cookies” which are text files placed on your computer, to help website providers analyze website traffic by end-users. The information that is generated by the cookie about your use of our K12Lab website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored on servers. For some areas of our site, we ask you to provide additional personal information that helps us provide you with news and updates from our K12Lab team, identify and credit any lesson plans that you submit to our K12Lab team, process any requests to become a K12Lab partner, enhance your site visit, and/or permit post-visit follow-up. This information might include your name, e-mail address, company information, telephone number, mailing address, the school and school district at which you teach, the grade(s) you teach, and/or contact preferences.

How does NI use the information collected about me in connection with the K12Lab website?

We use the information we receive from you to identify you for the purpose of crediting your lesson plan submissions to you, to process your requests regarding becoming a K12Lab partner, to improve the content, functionality and usability of the K12Lab website, and to improve the effectiveness of our advertising and marketing efforts.   Unless you give us prior approval to disclose your name, your school and the school district at which you teach, this information remains confidential.  If you choose to provide this information, we can credit your lesson plan submissions to you, process your requests regarding becoming a K12Lab partner, confirm your downloads of lesson plans from the K12Lab website, customize the K12Lab website page content, notify you of updates to the K12Lab website and offerings, and provide you with specific product and local event information.

By submitting any lesson plans, or signing up to receive news and updates, you give your consent to periodic e-mails from us about new offerings, products, services, discounts, special promotions, and/or upcoming events, and to our providing your personal information to the K12Lab partners for their use in conducting their own periodic emails about new offerings, products, services, discounts, special promotions, and/or upcoming events (see the “Is my information provided in connection with K12Lab shared with third parties” section below).

At any time, you can change the personal information we have stored, or request not to receive these e-mails and not to be contacted for marketing activities. See the “How can I update my information or remove myself from your marketing database (Opt-out)?” section below.

How does NI use cookies at the K12Lab website?

A cookie is a small file, typically only a few bytes, placed on your computer's hard drive. If you agree, then your browser adds the text in a small file. At NI, we primarily use cookies to tailor a Web application to you. We also use cookies to help us analyze Web traffic. By gathering and remembering information about your preferences, a Web application can tailor its operation to your needs, likes, and dislikes. By accepting cookies, we do not gain access to your computer or any personal information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us. The K12Lab website does not permanently store any personal information in cookies. Your first name, IP address and K12Lab website session information is temporarily stored in a session cookie. If you wish to delete K12Lab websitecookies, you must use your browser to delete them, as the ni.com cookie help page will not assist you in deleting these cookies. Doing so will not affect your access to our ni.com website associated with any ni.com profile that you may have set up through use of the ni.com website.

How do I know my information provided to the K12Lab website is secure?

The K12Lab website is currently hosted on a server operated by Amazon Web Services (“Amazon”), which has invested time and resources to implement online and internal security procedures aimed at safeguarding your personal information and keeping the systems up-to-date and secure.   

We do not at this time use SSL or other encryption means to encrypt any personal or other data that you transmit to the K12Lab website.  We do not request or accept credit card information at the K12Lab website.

Is my information provided in connection with K12Lab shared with third parties?

To keep your information confidential, NI does not release your personal information, except as we describe below or as required by law. We only use the personal information we collect to support and develop your relationship with NI, our affiliates, and our K12Lab partners as described below. Some of these K12Lab partners and affiliates may be located in other countries.

K12Lab Partners

Because the companies identified as K12Lab partners on the K12Lab website may provide products or services that may be of interest to you, we may provide your personal information to the K12Lab partners for e-mails about new offerings, products, services, discounts, special promotions, or upcoming events. By submitting lesson plans, or signing up to receive news and updates, you give us your consent to provide your personal information to the K12Lab partners.  At any time, you can request not to receive these e-mails and not to be contacted for marketing activities, without limiting your option to receive similar e-mails from NI. Third-Party Providers

The third party provider(s) referred to in the “What third-party providers does NI use to host and manage the K12Lab website?” section below will also have access to your personal information in connection with their duties as described in that section.

Release of Information

NI reserves the right to release information about you to protect our systems or business.  Also, we can release personal information when we reasonably believe you to be in violation of our current or subsequent website Terms & Conditions or our published guidelines, or reasonably believe you to have initiated or participated in any illegal activity. We can release this information in response to court orders and summonses, subpoenas in criminal and civil matters, discovery requests, and other appropriate legal or governmental authority.

How can I update my information or remove myself from your marketing  database (Opt-out)?

You can opt out at any time to the use of your personal information provided in connection with K12Lab for direct marketing purposes via e-mail, telephone, or conventional mail at any time. You may, if applicable, still receive nonmarketing email notifications related to topics including product recalls, service contract entitlements, and e-commerce transactions. To change or update your personal information on the K12Lab website, or remove yourself from our K12Lab marketing database, please K12LabUpdate.OptOut@ni.com with your specific request in this regard.Please allow us 10 business days for these changes to take effect.

How does the NI privacy statement affect me outside the U.S.?

If you are located within the European Union, you should note that your personal information (including name, title and department, school, school district, grade(s) taught, telephone number and e-mail address) is being provided to National Instruments Corp., located at 11500 North Mopac Expressway, Austin, Texas, 78759, United States, for the purposes described in this privacy statement, including services management, data support, business assessment, and direct marketing. Please note that the United States is deemed by the European Union (“EU”) to have inadequate data protection. We have therefore made an effort to add adequate protection to our customers located in the EU and to comply with EU data protection laws.

Is my information public in the public forum?

Please remember that any information (including personal information) that you disclose in public areas of our website, such as chat rooms, forums, and/or message boards, or other public forums such as trade shows or conventions, including any text you include in a message, becomes public information that others may collect, circulate, and use. Because NI cannot and does not control the acts of others, you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose information about yourself or others in public forums such as these.

Does NI maintain third-party website links?

Any links to third-party websites are provided on our website as a benefit to you; a third party maintains these websites.

What third-party providers does NI use to host and manage the K12Lab website?

We may hire other companies for data processing, mass mailing coordination, website hosting and maintenance, and statistical analysis of the K12Lab website. Such service providers will only be permitted to obtain the personal information needed to fulfill their service obligations to NI.

NI uses certain third party providers to perform specific services to enhance your online experience.  For example, the K12Lab website is currently hosted on a server operated by Amazon Web Services (“Amazon”) set up by Smith & Robot, LLC, NI’s third party service provider for development and maintenance of the K12Lab website.  In order to provide the services of our company to you, such service providers may have access to your personal information.  Additionally, any personal information you submit through the K12Lab website may be processed by a third-party service provider.  These providers are required to keep your information confidential and are strictly limited to using this information solely as authorized under their agreements with NI; they are prohibited from using your information for their own or another’s benefit.
