INTRODUCTION

Equalizers can be found in a variety of applications but some of the more common ones include home and car stereos as well as in professional studios for recording and producing music. For example, if you are watching a film and really want to enhance certain aspects of the audio within the stereo is an equalizer with filters that can be applied. The goal of this experiment is to gain insight as to what is really happening when use an equalizer.

In this experiment you will observe how an audio equalizer works by applying various filters to an audio signal. When you apply a filter to your audio signal you will be able see the effect the filter has on the frequency spectrum for the signal. In addition, you will also be able to hear how the sound change changes as a result of applying a filter to your signal.  During our study of filters we will learn the difference between three types of filters: low pass, high pass, and band pass. Each of these filters works in a similar manner but can produce different results which we will observe.
